about

"Haere Rā" means "farewell" in Te Reo Maori, the language of the Maori. As an American expat living in New Zealand, I have an intimate relationship with the experience of saying goodbye to people I love. It's a human universal: we all bid farewell to people that matter to us in this life. It's never easy, but it's always important. I am releasing this piece the day after I travel to the US for a 6.5 week tour, and it encapsulates the mournful feeling of bidding farewell to my beautiful home.

This is Track #10 of The 52, a project in which Rachel LaFond is releasing a new single every week for a year.
